Tattoo-Friendly Onsens in Japan
Worried about onsens not admitting you in Japan because you have tattoos? A lot of places are changing their rules, and there are plenty of places that will accommodate you. This post at GajinPot Travel lists 30 Tattoo Friendly Onsen in Japan.
Let us know if you've been to any of the locations and which one's were your favorite. We've featured 3 places on the list: Hottarakashi Onsen, Beppu (Ibusuki Hakusuikan), and Kannawa Mushiyu, but can always feature more. Also, feel free to weigh in here with other tattoo friendly places if they didn't make the list.
Weaving 8.5 miles and 2,500 vertical feet up the valley and through the woods and meadows to the popular Conundrum Hot Springs, I ended up feeling it that last mile up and that last mile down, but it was still so very worth the backpacking trip! My only recommendaton is to pack as lightly as possible to make it easier. To acclimated to the elevation, it's best to stay overnight in Aspen or Denver before starting your ascent up the trail. You also have to cross the snowmelt river a few times on the way, so be sure you have good water shoes. The springs are nestled between two waterfalls, and there are a number of nice camping spots to choose from. The view from the springs is fantastic! I also had a wonderful opportunity to commune with nature - soaking in the spring while watching a porcupine eating moss off of the rocks nearby.
