Weaving 8.5 miles and 2,500 vertical feet up the valley and through the woods and meadows to the popular Conundrum Hot Springs, I ended up feeling it that last mile up and that last mile down, but it was still so very worth the backpacking trip! My only recommendaton is to pack as lightly as possible to make it easier. To acclimated to the elevation, it's best to stay overnight in Aspen or Denver before starting your ascent up the trail. You also have to cross the snowmelt river a few times on the way, so be sure you have good water shoes. The springs are nestled between two waterfalls, and there are a number of nice camping spots to choose from. The view from the springs is fantastic! I also had a wonderful opportunity to commune with nature - soaking in the spring while watching a porcupine eating moss off of the rocks nearby.
